Savannah, GA is a mecca of great eats!

For Eric's birthday, I surprised him with a brief trip (too brief, that is!) to Savannah, Gawgia, with a romantic stay at Azalea Inn, thanks to a lovely Livingsocial deal that included chocolate covered strawberries, gourmet picnic basket, one night stay, amazing breakfast (grits with cheese and sausage in tomato gravy, so rich and delicious), and wine and appetizer evening social.  B&B was also located in the historic area, no need to drive around!

We walked to our little hearts' content around the gorgeous historic area, serene and oh-so-Southern charming with old oak trees draped in Spanish moss, quaint park squares in between, breathtaking historic homes complete with working gas lamps, and a carriage ghost tour ride in the rain.  (Rain added to the spooky mood and our wet butts, yes, water CAN come in sideways while you're sitting in the back of a horse-drawn carriage).  Cathedral of St. John the Baptist was beautiful; founded by French immigrants, this church is open to the public for tours.

Our foodie tour included Second Line (awesome buttery, tasty crawfish and roast beef po-boys, try their "debris" po-boy), Leopold's Ice Cream (can you say foodgasm?? OMG, that ice cream, try their peanut butter chippy and Tutti Frutti), Blowin' Smoke BBQ (their baby back ribs will cause loud groaning of pleasure), and Savannah Candy Kitchen (Willy Wonkaish machinery inside, free salt water taffy, and serious pecan logs). We missed our lunch reservation at Olde Pink House as we were already stuffed from picnicking in the park but we'll be back - so much food to try (B.D. Burgers, Lulu's Dessert Bar, Clarys, Rocks on the River, etc.), so little time!!
