Hunting for Dim Sum and then some....

We all know Jacksonville, Florida is very limited in its selections of ethnic restaurants, particularly Asian restaurants. Soooo we used to go to Hong Kong Bistro with my family on weekends and Chou, the owner, closed to renovate end of 2009then reopened as Kahns Mongolian BBQ. No dim sum, but Mongolian BBQ and some Chinese regular menu items. I assured her we will come back to try it (and of course a review will follow)!

BUT it doesn't change the fact that we are still on the hunt for dim sum amd crying for it! We used to go to Bamboo Creek in Tinseltown Southside area then they reopened to a new location. So that review is forthcoming (although I've heard the location is a bit dumpy and food is not as good as it was, I won't even get into the rumors I heard when it originally closed for a bit) and also, Silver Star, a Westside staple off Blanding Boulevard, has moved to where BJ's used to be (it was other restaurants before as well, all didn't last, including Ethopian BBQ that was unique and quite tasty) so I'll be reviewing Silver Star as well. That's it, 2 dim sum restaurants in Jacksonville, but if you come across a dim sum place NOT mentioned here, PLEASE SHARE! I'm on the hunt!

  1. ps This comment is for my sister, Cristina, who took us to Todai dim sum and full fledge Asian buffet (40 types of sushi, desserts, hot Asian foods) - pure heaven! A sign of a good Asian restaurant - everyone had black hair and HUGE families came to eat there, all for less than $20 per person unlimited buffet. Thanks Cristina, you have NOW raised the bar for us sad foodies in Jax.

  2. I have some co-workers that went to lunch at Bamboo Creek's new Baymeadows location today, and they said they liked it. It really is in a bit of an unfortunate location, in what used to be the old Bennigan's. I still haven't gone yet, but I'll get there eventually.

I love the blog so far! I hope you keep it going. I work in the Baymeadows area and am always looking for new places to try. If you're looking for suggestions, have you tried Mandaloun? It's in the same shopping center as Bowl of Pho. Lebanese/Mediterranean food, and a favorite in my office.
