On a crazy, busy Saturday last weekend, I crammed a gazillion activities for myself and the fam but it well worth the exhaustion! First, baked a yummy Samoa cookie pie for my church's fall bazaar while Cathy made her famous Paula Deen gooey pumpkin cake (2 sticks of butter, pumpkin, and tons of sugar are sure thing). Church bazaar food was super cheap - try 25 cent cookies, 50 cent cupcakes, and $6 for a plate of Filipino food!! Added bonus was how good everything was.
We watched the Blue Angels in my backyard (we're that close) - put simply, it was AWESOMENESS in the sky as they tore it up so skillfully, making flying in a formation while inverted look easy. Then the Southern Womens Show where we watched Kenny and Erika cook up a fabulous meal; Kenny did the salmon with fresh papaya salsa and a spicy sweet jam. Erika did fried chocolate fritters (yes, I said fried and chocolate in the same sentence, you're getting hot, aren't you??) with homemade cinnamon ice cream (she kept that recipe to herself).
Audience members got to sample the delicious fare, and it was so fun and touching to hear their personal stories and struggles to get where they are today. Kenny will open Nippers Beach Grille in Jax Beach in January of February 2011. I'll be there, pirate hat and all.
Sharing food adventures in Jacksonville and beyond, are you hungry?
