Woohoo! I'm sooo ready for spring/summer, but especially because it's not only bathing suit season, but ironically and cruelly, it's ice cream season! (It is for me, at least). A dedicated Ben & Jerry's fan but lusting for true-to-life thick, creamy, premium fat soft serve was not found here in Jax (Dreamette is good but not great, sorry Dreamette loyalists) UNTIL Florida Creamery arrived!
It used to be near the Loop in an office complex but is now located in the Avondale shopping area (two doors down from the Fox). My friend and I tried their samples, and we enjoyed their chicken salad made with cranberries, walnuts, celery, and apples followed by samples of their frozen tart yogurt, and delicious vanilla soft serve ice cream. I asked the owner, Angela Wilcox, what is the difference between regular frozen yogurt and tart yogurt; she told me it is the flavor, tart yogurt is more lemony and well, a bit tart. I loved it! It was like a cross between sherbet and yogurt, very refreshing.
They serve milkshakes, cones, and sundaes, too; the decor is old Floridian, complete with a gator, pirate decor, and kitschy, mismatched tables and chairs to dine in. I will need to return when weather's warm, and when I have a hankering for chicken salad or a hot dog and soft serve.
