Edgewood Bakery cakes, cookies, and wings, oh my!

Off Edgewood Avenue in the Murray Hill area lies Edgewood Bakery established in 1947 and owned by the loveliest couple, Sandy and Gary Poletta. When I got married in 2001, this bakery came with high recommendations for my wedding cake. I wanted a simple elegant 3 layer ivory vanilla cake with classic buttercream, and they nailed it! It was so good, I ate the top layer immediately upon return from our honeymoon. And I didn't wait to share it with my husband (I know, how selfish is that? But it was that good!)I did order a new top layer that was identical to our wedding cake for our 1 year anniversary to make up for devouring it too early.

I have been ordered birthday cakes for my 2 little girls for years, but it is also my go-to place for cookies, donuts, baked breads (apple cinnamon bread, anyone?), cannolis, cheese danishes, etc. When I have guests in town or for dinner parties, I have to come here, especially when I do not have the patience to bake. And you can dine in also.

They not only bake wedding and specialty cakes and a gazillion baked goodies, but they have expanded to breakfast and lunch. Crepes, eggs benedict, french toast, quiche are a few of their fantastic breakfast items with price ranges from $4.25 to $7.95, and for lunch, I've had their crispy chicken wings and their smoked turkey sandwich; love that all lunch items in price ranges of $4.99 - $7.99 come with a nice sugar cookie for dessert as well as a side item. Kids menu is also available, and my girls love staring at the beautifully decorated cakes on display as well as the fun dinosaur sugar cookies, cupcakes, and other treats smiling at them. Ask them how much eggs and flour they go through a week, it will blow your mind!
