Roy's for my birthday

Any excuse to go out and eat at a nice restaurant, and by golly, I will take it! Being obnoxious this year and wanting to venture out (gasp) across the bridge to the Jax Beach area, I decided to plan my own birthday excursion to Roy's, a Hawaiian fusion restaurant, for an adults only night with friends (kids not invited, sorry, but I can only sing Disney songs for so long).

In 1988, James Beard Award-winner Roy Yamaguchi opened the first Roy's in Honolulu, Hawaii and has since opened 33 other locations, Jax Beach being one of them. I love saving money (who isn't these days?), and with a 3 course price fixed menu offered 7 days/week for only $35, how can I resist? They change the menus to go with the seasons; spring's menu has for instance, offers a mochi (translation: Japanese rice cake) crusted ahi sashimi (translation: tuna sliced fish) with ponzu (translation: citrus based sauce) and a truffle emulsion. All fancy terms for just plain damn good raw fish. They also have chicken, pork, lamb, and beef dishes on the menu and Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé that literally makes my mouth salivate just by hearing the name. (I'm saying it out loud now and need a napkin).

I will post my review here after April 30th (our reservation is that night at 6 pm); if you see a group of people with flower leis on that night, I apologize in advance but IT'S MY PARTY AND I'LL CRY IF I WANT TO.
